Vehicle Emissions Reduction
Event
Organized by the Asian Development Bank and Vietnam Register with support from the United States-Asia Environmental Partnership (US-AEP) and the Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities funded by the World Bank, the Government of Japan, the Government of the Netherlands, and Ford Motor Company. Post-workshop statementMotorcycles and three-wheeled vehicles are popular forms of transportation in Asia. In many cities in the region, these vehicles account for 50-90% of the total vehicle fleet. Priority, therefore, must be given to pollution control strategies for these vehicles if Asian cities are to achieve clean, healthy air.
Reduction of Emissions from 2-3 Wheelers was the second regional workshop organized under RETA 5937. It was held at the Melia Hanoi hotel, Hanoi, Viet Nam from September 5 to 7, 2001. About 150 participants from government, the vehicle and oil industry, research organizations, the NGO community, transport associations, and multilateral institutions attended this event. Plenary sessions and working group discussions helped participants understand the extent of the problem and explore long-term solutions. Participants came up with the following general recommendations:
