First Regional Training Workshop on Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Greenhouse Gas Abatement

Introduction

The participants at the workshop discussed issues on climate change, the requirements and issues in preparing and developing renewable energy, energy efficiency and greenhouse gas abatement (REGA) projects under the Kyoto Protocol and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), and addressed the needs of policy and institutional enhancement for promotion of REGA technologies in the participating countries.

Country participants had the opportunity to present the status of project implementation, policy/institutional barriers to REGA technologies, project prioritization, and other country initiatives.

Purpose

This PREGA project workshop aims to discuss issues on climate change, introduce the requirements and issues of developing renewable energy, energy efficiency and greenhouse gas abatement (REGA) projects under the Kyoto Protocol and CDM, and address needs of policy and institutional enhancement for promotion of REGA technologies in the participating countries.

Objectives

The objectives of the workshop are:

• to familiarize the participants with the requirements and issues of developing REGA projects;
• to plan for the implementation of PREGA in the respective countries; and
• to identify potential REGA projects for development up to pre-feasibility stage.

Seminar Participants

60 participants from the Asia-Pacific region will be invited to participate. They will be

• National government executives overseeing public services,
• Local government officials responsible for services delivery, and
• Civil society representatives advocating to improve responsiveness in services delivery.

Target Participants

• Representatives from participating DMCs;
• Representatives/Staff from international/regional organizations/bilateral agencies (ESCAP, UNEP, UNDP, Netherlands, etc)
