18-20 February 2002, a regional workshop on National Resettlement
Policy Enhancement and Capacity Building was held at the ADB
Headquarters in Manila, Philippines. Participants from Bangladesh,
Cambodia, People’s Republic of China, India, Indonesia,
Laos, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam,
representing diverse backgrounds including government, civil
society groups, and international development agencies, attended
the workshop.

The workshop is the culminating activity of ADB's regional technical assistance on National Resettlement Policy Enhancement and Capacity Building -- TA 5935-REG.
The workshop aims to
- provide a forum to present country reports which include draft resettlement policies and/or other legal and regulatory documents
- provide an opportunity to share experiences on resettlement planning and implementation, and enable an exchange of ideas at the project level
- provide an opportunity to enhance prospects for donor co-ordination to support future directions for national resettlement policy enhancement and implementation in the Region
- Cambodia: National Resettlement Action Plan (NRAP) including a draft Resettlement Policy
- People's Republic of China Final draft of Chapter 5 of the State Council Decree on Regulations to Implement the 1998 Land Law
- Indonesia: Revised Draft of the Law on Land Acquisition and selected related regulations
- Nepal: Revised Land Acquisition Act
- Pakistan: Final Draft of the Resettlement Policy
- Philippines: Draft Executive Order
Including Guidelines for Resettlement Planning and Implementation and Proposal for Capacity Building in each of the above DMCs.
- Representatives of Government ministries, focal agencies, consultants, civil
society including NGOs from Cambodia, People's Republic of China, Indonesia,
Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, India, Viet Nam, Laos, and Bangladesh
- donors and multilateral financial institutions
