Background

The Asian Development Bank is organizing a Water Week to stimulate knowledge development in the water sector and promote dialogue with development partners on important water sector issues.

The overall theme for this year is “Water for All - Getting ADB’s Water Policy to Work.” Session themes are linked to the basic elements of ADB’s Water Policy. The session themes for Water Week are:

• Promoting national water policies and sector reforms
• Fostering integrated management of water resources in river basins
• Fostering stakeholder participation
• Developing partnerships
• Improving water services in irrigation and drainage
• Improving water services in water supply and sanitation with private sector participation
• Promoting regional cooperation

Features

The sessions will follow a modular format:

• a short introduction to the theme
• two case study presentations, followed by questions and answers
• comments by a panel of experts
• moderated plenary discussion

One session is allocated for dialogue with development partners, including invited representatives of donors, NGOs, private sector, and the academe.

The expected presentation of the ADB Water Prize will be a highlight of Water Week. The Prize will be presented to a project agency in recognition for good practice in an ADB-financed project.
