ADB Water Prize

The ADB Water Prize is presented to a project agency in an ADB-financed water project in recognition of sound practice in support of ADB's Water Policy 'Water for All'.
For the 2002 ADB Water Prize, rural water supply and sanitation practices were considered on the following criteria:
- degree of efforts exerted by the project agency in implementing the project
- extent of stakeholder participation as evidenced by their contribution
- role of NGOs and other partners
- degree of providing better service to the poor through the inclusion of sanitation, hygiene, livelihood and other components

ADB’s Water Sector Committee makes the recommendation for the award of the ADB Water Prize to ADB Management.
The Housing, Urban Development, and Public Health Engineering Department of Punjab Province, Pakistan was the recipient of the 2002 ADB Water Prize. It was recognized for successfully promoting stakeholder participation, hygiene education, and local community ownership in the ADB-financed Punjab Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Project.
