Regional Preparatory Meeting on Central Asia Economic Cooperation

Post-Workshop Statement

The Regional Preparatory Meeting (RPM) held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan during 28-29 September 2003 was a key step in the preparation of the coming 2^nd Ministerial Conference to be held in the same venue on 11-12 November 2003. Senior officials from member countries of the Regional Cooperation and observers from invited multilateral institutions (MIs) participated in the meeting.

The meeting provided the venue for sharing views and ideas that help find common grounds for further dialogue and consideration in the 2^nd Ministerial Conference.

Objectives

At the end of the meeting, participants will have:

• reviewed draft sector proposals prepared by the multilateral institutions (MIs) in the priority areas of transport, trade facilitation, and energy
• discussed the draft outline report by the November Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) to the 2^nd Ministerial Conference
• reviewed the overall preparation for the 2^nd Ministerial Conference and other related issues.

Expected Outputs

• Draft outline report by November SOM to the 2^nd Ministerial Conference
• Sector proposals in the priority areas: transport, trade facilitation, and energy
• A list of other issues in preparation for the 2^nd Ministerial Conference

Target Participants

Participation is by invitation only. Target participants are senior officials from Azerbaijan, the People's Republic of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan and representatives from MIs namely ADB, EBRD, IMF, UNDP, and WB.
