Post Workshop Statement

The workshop assisted the participating countries for the negotiations in the Ninth Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, wherein the final implementation issues concerning forestry in the Clean Development Mechanism have to be decided.

Purpose

This regional workshop aims to assist countries to prepare for their negotiations concerning forestry issues in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) during COP9.

Objectives

The objectives of the workshop are to:

  • clarify issues under negotiation
  • identify national and regional preferences
  • link climate change and forestry experts
  • improve communication between and within countries
  • provide an opportunity for presenting ADB's experience with and expectations from the Clean Development Mechanism, particularly with respect to its forestry operations.

  • Representatives from 16 DMCs
  • Representatives/Staff from international/regional organizations/bilateral agencies (FAO, EU, UNEP, IUCN, UNFCCC, ADB); and
  • Institutes (University of the Philippines Los Baņos, Environmental Law Center and Hamburg Institute of International Economics).
