Consultation Session on Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation
(Held during the 37th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of ADB)
Jeju Island, Korea 15 May 2004

Background

A Consultation Session on Central Asia Economic Cooperation was held on 15 May 2004 during the 37th Annual Meeting of ADB Governors in Jeju Island, Korea. Participants included Annual Meeting delegates from countries participating in the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program, delegates from neighboring member countries, and representatives from multilateral institutions.

ADB's Annual Meeting offers a good opportunity for joint consultation with high-level government officials on economic cooperation in Central Asia. This is the third time that such a consultation session is held during ADB's Annual Meeting. Apart from providing a forum for deliberating specific issues, this consultation contributes to enhancing mutual trust and understanding, which are the foundations for regional economic cooperation.
