Transport Sector Coordinating Committee Meeting
Almaty, Kazakhstan 30 June - 01 July



Background

The Transport Sector Coordinating Committee (SCC) was convened on 30 June to 01 July 2004 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. This was the inaugural meeting of the Transport SCC, which is one of several sectoral committees under the overall institutional framework of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program. Transport officials from countries participating in the CAREC Program (Azerbaijan, People's Republic of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan) as well as representatives of multilateral institutions (ADB, EBRD, and ISDB) attended the Meeting.

Objectives

The Meeting will:

  • review progress made in the transport sector in the context of regional cooperation
  • identify the strategic priorities for the transport sector
  • discuss the development of a regional transport sector road map for consideration at the Senior Officials' Meeting scheduled for September 2004.

Target Participants

  • Participation is by invitation only.
  • Transport officials from each of the governments of Azerbaijan, People's Republic of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
  • Representatives of multilateral institutions (ADB, EBRD, IMF, ISDB, UNDP, and World Bank)
