Background

ADB hosted the conference on Enhancing the Efficiency of Filipino Worker’s Remittances on 16 December 2004. Close to 100 participants from various government agencies, commercial banks, overseas worker’s associations and scholars participated.

The conference focused on the different developmental aspects of remittances and included discussions on the potential role of microfinance organizations in channeling remittance flows to rural areas; and extending financial literacy training to overseas workers and their dependents. The technological advancement in remittance transfers, including regulatory implications was also discussed during the conference.
