Regional Conference:
Gender and Governance Issues in Local Government (RETA 6008)
ADB Headquarters, Manila, Philippines
9-10 March 2004



Purpose

This workshop aims to present the findings of the RETA in the regional workshop and identify the regional issues on gender, governance and poverty reduction for policy makers in the context of local government.

Objectives

At the end of the workshop, participants are expected to know:

  • the importance of gender issues in local governance
  • the critical importance of capacity building of the female representatives in the Local Government
  • the importance of mobilization of representative of the local government, line agencies, NGOs and poor people for effective social service delivery.

Expected Outputs

  • Major findings of the TA and its implication for future ADB work on gender, governance and poverty reduction
  • Regional paper on gender and governance at the local level

Target Participants

Participation include:

  • Local government officials
  • Partner NGOs/NGOs
  • Elected women representatives, and grassroots women leaders
  • donors
