Viet Nam National Workshop on PREGA
|
|
The workshop was held on 7 December 2005 in Hanoi, Viet Nam. About 70 participants and speakers attended the workshop. The workshop participants heard about how Viet Nam has excellent renewable energy potential in hydro and biomass in particular. Viet Nam has made a good start in utilising its considerable hydro potential, although there were some challenges with areas such as existing Pico Power developments and obtaining suitable power purchase agreements for smaller grid connected renewable energy schemes. It was clear that the Government of Viet Nam wishes to further utilise renewable energy, and that a key to this would be the development of an off-grid electricity development policy to underpin specific support policies for the many areas of Viet Nam that were unlikely to be ever be economically provided with grid electricity. The workshop
discussed how CDM would be of great assistance to the financial
viability of grid renewable energy projects, and how facilitating
specific projects and building CDM capacity, as well as building
financial sector capacity in evaluating renewable energy projects,
would be a key PREGA Phase 2 activity.
