A sub regional workshop under TA 5972-REG: Promotion of Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Greenhouse Gas Abatement (PREGA) was held from 19 – 22 September 2005 at Jin Tai Hotel in Beijing, People’s Republic of China. The workshop aimed to bring key national counterpart agency (NCA) representatives and national technical experts (NTEs) from five participating PREGA countries in Mekong, East and Southeast Asia region: Lao PDR, Viet Nam, Mongolia, People's Republic of China, Indonesia and the Philippines.

The objectives of the workshop were to:
(i) help enhance the capability of participants to prepare feasibility reports and Clean Development Mechanism project design documents, and
(ii) give the opportunity for each country team to present the status of activities under Phase 2 of the PREGA project.
The workshop also served as the venue of information and knowledge exchange on implementation of technologies and financial strategies in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy and other greenhouse gas abatement measures. A field visit to a hydropower plant pumped storage near Beijing is also included in the 4-day workshop program.
