Forum on Trade Facilitation and Customs Modernization

Singapore, 26-28 January 2005

The Forum on Trade Facilitation and Customs Modernization, co-sponsored by ADB and International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore), was held in Singapore from 26 to 28 January 2005 to support the training initiatives endorsed by the Customs Cooperation Committee (CCC) at the Meeting in Baku in December 2004.

The Forum focused on Singapore’s efforts to:

  • streamline and integrate trade procedures of all trade related agencies through a nationwide automated information system (i.e., the TradeNet);
  • cooperate with the private sector to maintain and upgrade the TradeNet; and
  • adopt modern customs practices based on risk management, post-entry audit, and customs intelligence.

The Forum was attended by:

  • senior officials of the customs administrations,
  • experts in information and communications technology (ICT),
  • experts in risk management and customs intelligence, and
  • experts in tax administration.
Participating countries include Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, People's Republic of China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
