Achieving Gender Equality in Asia and the Pacific: Quick-Impact Initiatives and
Financial Requirements
ADB Headquarters, Manila, Philippines: 31 May 2006, 12:00 noon, RSDD Conference Room 4654 East Core
Background | Purpose | Presentation | Target Participants
At the World Summit in 2005, governments from Asia and the Pacific and other regions, and international development organizations, reaffirmed their commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment as essential to development, peace and security. However, significant challenges remain in terms of translating these broad commitments into concrete actions that are adequately staffed and funded.

In this seminar, Caren Grown, a member of ADB’s External Forum on Gender and Development (EFG), presented highlights of her recent work on “quick-impact” initiatives to achieve gender equality, and on a methodology for “costing” these and other gender-related activities, with special attention to Asia and the Pacific.
