Orientation Workshop on the Consultation Phase of the ADB Accountability Mechanism and ADB’s Public Communications Policy

The Consultation Phase provides access to people negatively affected by an ADB-supported project to help them solve their problems. The discussion provides insights for proactive management of potential complaints as well as clarify procedures that will operate should complaints reach the Office of the Special Project Facilitator.

The Public Communications Policy enables greater access to information and expands opportunities for those affected by ADB operations to influence decisions that shape their lives. The policy supports the right of people to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas about ADB-assisted projects. ADB’s member country governments play an important role in the proactive dissemination of information. The discussion aims to achieve the active participation in improving communication with stakeholders about ADB-supported activities.

The objective of the workshop is to help project executing/implementing agencies and non-government stakeholders

• become familiar with the two new policies—Accountability Mechanism (Consultation Phase) and Public Communications; and
• understand their roles, rights, and responsibilities under these policies.
