2nd BIMP-EAGA Chief Ministers, Governors and Heads of Local Government Forum

Koronadal, South Cotabato, Mindanao, Philippines: 23-24 October 2007

Purpose | Objectives | Expected Outputs | Target Participants

To increase awareness of local governments in the East ASEAN Growth Area (EAGA) of the concepts, benefits, opportunities and potential risks of regional cooperation and integration to local economic development and improve local participation in EAGA activities.

  • Update the local government units (LGUs) regarding EAGA developments
  • Enable LGUs to define their specific roles in EAGA and how to make use of opportunities provided by subregional cooperation
  • Discuss and agree on measures to advance EAGA trade, investment and tourism initiatives on a multilateral, bilateral, or port-to-port basis

  • Mechanisms to strengthen and institutionalize the participation of LGUs in the EAGA initiative

  • Participation is by invitation only
  • Representatives of local governments, central governments and the private sector are expected to attend the Forum. Countries represented are Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines
