The Benefits of Regional Cooperation: An Exchange Learning Program between CAREC and the GMS

The Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) program has endorsed capacity building and knowledge as a fundamental for regional economic cooperation. The Asian Development Bank has designed a learning exchange program between CAREC and the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) to explore lessons learned, and to study continuing issues and challenges in the key areas of transport infrastructure, trade and investment.

At the end of the program, participants will have familiarized themselves with the following topics:

  • Overview of GMS and regional cooperation;
  • The concept of transport and economic corridors;
  • The cross border transport agreement and TIR;
  • Trade facilitation measures including single stop inspections;
  • Individual presentations by CAREC participants; and
  • Study visit to the East-West corridor.
