The 1st Asia-Pacific Water Summit (APWS) brought together political leaders to recognize the significance of water issues toward achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). By addressing and engaging decision-makers at the highest possible levels, the 1st APWS sought to generate the support and commitment required to meet the region’s water challenges.
For the Network Asian River Basin Organizations (NARBO), the development of a strategic process for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) is a key action in achieving the MDGs. More importantly, the increasing water demands in the region require a more in depth look at the unique situation in Asia-Pacific.
At this open event in the 1st APWS, NARBO member organizations discussed ongoing processes, successes, and experiences in water resources management, and brainstormed with international donors on how to boost IWRM investments in the region.
