Working Group on Infrastructure and Transportation
As reported at IMT-GT Senior Officials' Meeting

As lead country of the WG, Malaysia presented the progress report of the Working Group (WG). The expansion of transport links within the subregion included the establishment/ enhancement of air services between several points of the IMT-GT and establishment of passenger ferry services between various points. The progress of transport projects under the IMT-GT Roadmap was also presented. Discussions have commenced on enhancing road transport facilitation through mutual recognition of road vehicle registration, including a new framework for transport of goods and people between Thailand and Malaysia. On sea transport, the WG noted the development of Ro-Ro Ferry Services (Belawan-Penang, Penang-Malahayati (Aceh), Penang-Trang, and Kuala Linggi (Melaka)-Dumai (Riau, Sumatera). On air transport, the three countries have agreed to provide incentives for airlines in the form of reduced parking, landing and passenger service charges. The WG is expected to meet in November 2007 to discuss among others, improving air and maritime linkages. The IMT-GT JBC suggested that the WG identify airlines that could serve the requirements of tourists during the Visit IMT-GT Year 2008.
