ADB Urban Day 2008 is the first annual urban forum organized by ADB Urban Community of Practice. It gathers participants from national and local governments, international community of practice, private sector, civil society and academia to discuss pressing urban issues on urban environment and sanitation, urban transport, city region development, and municipal finance and governance, in relation to operational themes of sustainable urban development and sound environmental management promoting livable cities. This forum will aid ADB in developing and pursuing urban projects, programs, and other initiatives in line with Strategy 2020.
With this year's theme "Environment and Livable Cities", the forum will tackle issues on solid waste management, climate change, and city cluster development; and their impacts on promoting livable cities.

The forum aims to:
- Present national and local initiatives in managing solid waste based on case studies, and offer strategies to finance solid waste management, including public-private partnership;
- Explore the implications of climate change issues—mitigation and adaptation—for urban projects, focusing on systems for financing climate-responsive projects in developing countries;
- Discuss a cluster-based urban development approach, by analyzing the competitiveness of cities, and presenting case studies how cluster-based urban development can improve economic functions of urban areas as engines of growth, promoting livable cities; and
- Provide an opportunity to continue networking and partnerships among governments, nongovernment organizations, civil society, private institutions, and international organizations.

Participants will include national and local government officials, policy makers, senior officials from international organizations, representatives from nongovernment organizations, university professors, urban planners, and business leaders.
