The Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF) is a network that identifies and adopts solutions to water issues in the region. Its goal is to contribute to sustainable water management for achieving the Millennium Development Goals Water Targets in the Asia-Pacific.
APWF has identified three priority themes based on water issues and challenges common to the region: water financing, disaster management, and water for development and ecosystems. It has also set 5 key result areas (KRAs) that direct actions to ensure progress under each of the priority themes, encompassing a specific set of approaches and activities.
In line with priority theme on disaster management, the APWF organized regional consultation meetings on “Climate Change Adaptation and Water-related Disaster Management” at the inaugural Singapore International Water Week. These meetings supported the work of the newly established water knowledge hubs, which are centers for knowledge exchange and information dissemination established jointly by ADB, the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education, and the Singapore Public Utilities Board as part of an ongoing partnership.
The National Hydraulic Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM) was designated the Knowledge Hub for Water and Climate Change Adaptation in Southeast Asia, while the International Center for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM) serves as Knowledge Hub for Disaster Risk Reduction and Flood Management.
