Greater Mekong Subregion Regional Rural Renewable Energy (RRE) Workshop

The Regional Rural Renewable Energy (RRE) Workshop held last 21 September 2008 in Vientiane, Lao PDR was conducted to (a) level off on the rationale, objectives and depth of the study on Strategies and Options for Integrating Biofuels and RRE Production into Rural Agriculture for Poverty Reduction in the GMS; (b) to determine the extent of private sector involvement and problems in the sub-sector; and (c) pre-identify the data and information that are available for use. Findings of the study to formulate strategies and options for integrating biofuels and RRE production in agriculture for poverty reduction in the GMS was consolidated for presentation in the WGA-5 meeting. The draft Regional Strategic Policy Framework and Action Plan for Biofuels and RRE Development was also prepared. Participants of the workshop were the Team Leaders of the National Assessment Teams or their designated representatives that spearheaded the conduct of the study.
