Mainstreaming Gender Equality in Infrastructure Projects: Asia and Pacific Regional Meeting

The Multilateral Development Bank (MDB) Working Group on Gender was established in 2001 with the aim of strengthening information sharing and collaboration among MDBs on gender equality in operations. Members include the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the African Development, Inter-American Development Bank, and the World Bank. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is currently participating as an observer. The working group is currently chaired by ADB.
The Workshop is the first of a series of three workshops on this theme sponsored by the MDB Working Group on Gender. Two other meetings are planned for 2009, one for Latin America and Caribbean region, and one for the Africa region.

- Develop the capacity of MDB staff and of their partner client countries in engendering their infrastructure project portfolios; and
- Expand the community of practice needed to scale up integration of gender and infrastructure.

The framework of the workshop is in line with the overall framework of the third Millennium Development Goal (MDG 3) which seeks to achieve greater gender equality and women's economic empowerment. The participants will have the opportunity to learn from successful projects, to brainstorm on how to integrate the factors of success into their own activities, and to establish a common platform moving forward.
The workshop has been structured into four modules

- Module 2: Listening to Men and Women's Needs for Infrastructure and Infrastructure Services
- Module 3: Customizing to Sectors
- Module 4: Monitoring Results and Evaluating Outcomes

Participation is by invitation only for external participants. ADB staff are welcome to join any session.
Participants will include MDB's staff, country participants from ADB and the World Bank and other stakeholders.
