ADB Celebrates International Women's Day 2008
Theme: "Financing for Gender Equality"

Focusing on the IWD 2008 theme of "Financing for Gender Equality", Vice President for Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development Ursula Schaefer-Preuss emphasizes ADB's work in investing in women's empowerment and gender equality through its Gender and Development Plan of Action (2008-2010), the multidonor Gender and Development Cooperation Fund and the External Forum on Gender and Development.

Ms. Schaefer-Preuss opened the breakfast program with Vice President for Finance and Administration Bindu Lohani. Guest speakers were Professor Leonor Briones, former Treasurer of the Government of the Philippines, and Ms. Victoria Garchitorena, President of the Ayala Foundation.

ADB displayed gender publications along with the International Labour Organization, University of the Philippines, Migrant Forum in Asia, Plan International, National Economic Development Authority, and National Commision on the Role of Filipino Women. Photos on women were also exhibited along with these winning entries in a photo competition among ADB staff and consultants.
