Mobilizing Civil Society to Improve Governance in Transport

ADB Headquarters, Manila, Philippines: 25-27 June 2008

Background | Objectives | Expected Outputs | Target Participants

The global Transport Knowledge Partnership (gTKP), a program supported by the United Kingdom Department for International Development, is sponsoring a regional workshop in line with the recommendations of the gTKP Governance Theme roundtable discussions held during 2007. The workshop will complement and strengthen other Governance Theme activities, including the capture of practical governance case studies, and the development of straightforward road sector benchmarks appropriate for use by road sector stakeholders. The workshop will be hosted by ADB in Manila.

At the end of the workshop, participants will have:

  • reviewed examples of governance case studies and refined the plan to capture further case studies
  • discussed the progress of developing a booklet about road infrastructure for road stakeholders
  • assessed the progress of developing practical road sector benchmarks
  • developed recommendations for other education materials to assist civil society
  • discussed ways in which the media can make a positive contribution to improving governance

Participation is by invitation. Participants include:

  • DMC road sector professionals
  • NGO groups representing civil society, especially with road sector interest
  • International agencies and groups representing transport interests
