Background & Rationale

The Asian Development Bank (ADB), in cooperation with The Asia Foundation, Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the World Bank, has prepared a country gender assessment (CGA) for Indonesia. The CGA provided an overview of gender issues and identified strategies to reduce gender gaps and improve women's empowerment.

Before the CGA was published, a workshop for key stakeholders was held in Jakarta.

Expected Outcome

The objectives of the workshop were to

  1. review the extent to which the draft CGA accurately described existing gender gaps and issues in Indonesia
  2. discuss and validate findings and recommendations of the CGA with key stakeholders
Results to Date

The event was hosted by the State Ministry of Women's Empowerment on 13 September 2005. The participants included representatives of bilateral and multilateral donor agencies, government sector ministries and agencies including the Ministry of Finance and the National Development Planning Agency (BAPPENAS), as well as representatives of local governments and nongovernment organizations.

The CGA was well received by the participants.
