Forest Resources Management Sector Project (2000)

The project aims to increase the value and sustainability of Sri Lanka's forests by creating a policy and governance framework that promotes local participation. This framework encourages local communities and private sector participation in the development and management of forest resource. The forest dwellers, which includes the ethnic minorities and other disadvantaged sections of rural communities, are the main beneficiaries of the project.
The poverty reduction objectives of the project is achieved through:
- establishment and implementation of participatory and sustainable forest management of demarcated permanent forests
- enhancement of access of the local forest communities to gainful employment and human resource development opportunities
Location:
The Project will be implemented in about 10 subproject areas, each covering up to three forestry divisions (Map).
