Technical Education Development Project
Sri Lanka

The Project's impact will be the development of more mid-level and highly skilled human resources who will contribute to economic growth and social development. The Project will help the Government close the gap between the supply of and demand for technicians and technologists by helping upgrade technical colleges to colleges of technology to offer new technician diploma programs, and establish Univotec to offer new technical education and technology degree programs.

The Project will have positive impacts on all ethnic groups without favoring any. The Summary Poverty Reduction and Social Strategy indicates that impact on indigenous peoples is not significant. However, in the event of any project impact on an ethnic minority group, safeguard measures will be included either in an ethnic minority development plan as per the approved ethnic minority development framework or as specific action in resettlement plans.

Location:
The Project will develop new technician diploma programs within the national vocational qualifications framework and upgrade six technical colleges to colleges of technology in six out of nine provinces to conduct the programs. (Project Map)
