Nam Ngum River Basin Development Sector Project
Lao PDR
The Poverty and Social
Assessment reports that the ethnic minority groups
are among the poorest and most vulnerable communities in the country.
They suffer from social exclusion due social and cultural factors
such as language, social identity and history of antagonism. The
Ethnic Groups' Development Plan is designed to ensure the full participation
of ethnic minority communities in all relevant activities. They
will be mobilized and organized for culturally appropriate extension
training, and livelihood development programs. The project will
carry out a participatory rapid appraisal (PRA) in association with
Lao Front for National Construction (LFNC), Lao Women's Union (LWU),
and international Non-Government Organizations (NGOs).
