Nam Ngum River Basin Development Sector Project
Lao PDR

The Poverty and Social Assessment reports that the ethnic minority groups are among the poorest and most vulnerable communities in the country. They suffer from social exclusion due social and cultural factors such as language, social identity and history of antagonism. The Ethnic Groups' Development Plan is designed to ensure the full participation of ethnic minority communities in all relevant activities. They will be mobilized and organized for culturally appropriate extension training, and livelihood development programs. The project will carry out a participatory rapid appraisal (PRA) in association with Lao Front for National Construction (LFNC), Lao Women's Union (LWU), and international Non-Government Organizations (NGOs).

Location:
NNRB covers a large area, about 16,906 km2, in north-central Lao PDR, including Vientiane. Geographically, the hydraulic boundary of the NNRB cuts across the administrative boundaries of Vientiane Province, Vientiane Municipality, Xieng Khouang Province, Xaisomboun Special Zone, and the small southeastern tip of Louang Prabang Province.
