Objectives

Grant Development Objectives (GDO)

To improve the capacity of the national and local authorities in the Kyrgyz Republic in reducing the vulnerability of the country's poor to frequently occurring natural disasters.1

Project Purpose

To assist the Government to restore economic and social activity quickly in the communities of four oblasts (Chui, Issyk-Kul, Jalal-Abad, and Osh) struck by landslides and floods by rehabilitating damaged public infrastructure. The long-term goal of the project is to help sustain economic growth and poverty reduction in the country.

Expected Outputs
  • Better understanding of the impact of natural disasters on the national economy, and of optimal social strategies towards natural disasters
  • Enhanced institutional capacity of MEES and local authorities for adequate monitoring, management, preparedness, and response to natural disasters
  • about 15-20 small-scale community-based disaster management projects piloted in selected highly vulnerable areas within the framework.
