Grant Development Objective (GDO)
To demonstrate the potential for increasing the direct poverty reduction impact of road network improvement.
Project Purpose
The purpose of the project is to pilot-test a mechanism for linking poverty reduction initiatives to road network improvement so that the poor can improve their livelihoods.
Expected Outputs
The expected outcomes are:
- poor roadside communities gain access to the main roads and adjacent villages and thereby to education and health services, markets, and jobs
- the Works and Services Department (WSD) of the NWFP integrates the community into road development, improving the project results' sustainability
- Communities adjacent to the developed roads increase their trade and business skills, thus improving their livelihoods

Implementation of activities will take 48 months.
