Participating NGOs
Provide electricity and water connections to poor households that were affected by the tsunami, in the districts of Galle, Matara, Ampara, and Batticaloa.
Grant Development Objective (GDO)
- Improve quality of life of poor households affected by the Tsunami, by giving them access to electricity and water.
- Create awareness among the poor on use of utility connections.
Project Purpose
Improve living standards of the poor affected by the tsunami, during the reconstruction process.
Expected Outputs
- At least 4406 grants contracted at the end of one year
- Public awareness carried out in at least 40 villages
Component A: Grant to households- This component will provide a grant facility to tsunami affected poor households to obtain utility connections.
Component B: Awareness Creation- The awareness creation component will address three elements, which will help successful targeting of beneficiaries and sustainability of utility connections.
- The financial structure and the selection criteria to be used when targeting beneficiaries.
- The technical and safety aspects of establishing utility connections and usage.
- Special issues relating to poor as utility consumers, such as sustainability of connections.
Component C: Progress Monitoring- This component will monitor project progress and financial reporting. It will also provide feedback on the projects public awareness measures.
