Scope

Water Supply and Sanitation

Objectives

Grant Development Objectives (GDO)

(i) improve affordable water delivery services in apartment buildings whose residents are predominantly poor, in the cities of Djizzak, Gulistan, and Karshi; (ii) reduce water leakage and wastage by improving internal plumbing fittings and raising public awareness of the need for and benefits of, water conservation; (iii) promote greater community participation in managing water supply services; and (iv) support the ongoing Asian Development Bank funded Urban Water Supply Project to improve the quality of life and health conditions of the poor. The overall objective of the JFPR grant is to provide affordable water services for the urban poor and to conserve water.

Project Purpose

The project's main purpose is to improve the living and health conditions in the secondary cities of Djizzak, Gulistan, and Karshi, which have high proportions of poor people, by improving basic infrastructure services.

Expected Outputs

The project's expected outputs are: (i) improved water supply, plumbing, and building services; (ii) improved capacity and expertise to maintain building service systems; and (iii) reduction of water wastage and leakage.
