Project Summary

This RETA shall carry out participatory poverty assessment in 4 countries (Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Tonga and Tuvalu) applying the methodologies previously developed in another RETA.

Specifically, this will support increased awareness and capacity building for improved assessment and understanding of poverty, discussion of poverty, formulation of National Poverty Reduction Strategies, their incorporation into national development strategies, the finalization of Poverty Partnership Agreements (PPAs), the establishment of poverty reduction Millennium Development Goals related performance indicators, and commitment to the implementation and monitoring of the same in selected Pacific developing member countries (PDMCs).

This will facilitate actual delivery of poverty reduction measures that will have an impact at the community level.

Scope

  1. Organization of poverty consultation workshops organized and run by the respective governments
  2. Establishment of in-country poverty task forces to steer and guide the process of NPRS formulation
  3. Holding of workshops, engaging the poor in selected PDMCs, to discuss poverty assessments and recommend a NPRS
  4. Holding of a regional forum to share analysis, assessment, understanding, approaches, strategies, priorities, and the application of millennium development goals (MDGs) and the monitoring of MDG achievements in the Pacific.
