Xieng Khouang Road Improvement ProjectCountry and LocationLao PDR Project DescriptionThe project will improve about 300 kilometers (km) of two national road (NR) sections and about 100 km of feeder roads in the province of Xieng Khouang. The two national road sections (NR7 and part of NR1), which will be upgraded to bituminous standard will provide Xieng Khouang province with year-round accessibility to the capital Vientiane and the rest of the country in the west and the border with Viet Nam in the east. The selected feeder roads will be provided with pavement strengthening, drainage and slope protection, and regravelling. Total Project CostThe Project cost is estimated at US$64.5 million equivalent, of which US$50.0 million is the foreign exchange cost and US$14.5 million is the local currency cost. Bank LoanThe equivalent in various currencies of SDR 33.858 million (US$46.0 million) from the Bank's Asian Development Fund. The civil works contractors for road improvement (4 contract packages) will be selected on the basis of international competitive bidding. The civil works contractors for the feeder road improvements will be selected through local competitive bidding procedures acceptable to the Bank. ConsultantsInternational and domestic consultants will be required for construction supervision (about 180 person- months of international and 750 person-months of domestic services). International and domestic consultants (about 60 person-months and 200 person- months, respectively) will also be required for the detailed engineering of the proposed Rural Access Roads Project. The selection and engagement of consultants will be in accordance with the Bank's Guidelines on the Use of Consultants. Estimated Date of Completion31 December 2001 |
