Conference On Pension System Reforms In South Asia
MANILA, PHILIPPINES (17 November 2000) - A capacity building conference to explore appropriate strategies to reform pension systems in South Asia will be held in New Delhi from 23 November to 2 December 2000.
The objectives of the conference are:
- to enhance the understanding of senior policy makers, government officials, and private sector representatives of the main issues involved in pension reforms and to expose them to cross-country experiences;
- to enhance skills of officials in evaluating alternative policy options and design, and in implementing a feasible pension program;
- to discuss the activities and approach of multilateral institutions toward social security reforms in the South Asia region; and
- to provide a forum to exchange views and share ideas.
Jointly organized by the Asian Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank Institute (Tokyo), ICICI Ltd., India Life Pension Services and the Colombo Plan Secretariat, the conference is poised to attract some high level policy makers and private sector representatives from Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives and India.
Multilateral agencies involved in social security reforms such as UNESCAP, ILO, ISSA as well as concerned non-governmental organizations will also participate.
