ADB Vice-President Liqun Jin to Visit Bangladesh

DHAKA, BANGLADESH (27 October 2004) - Asian Development Bank Vice-President Liqun Jin will visit Bangladesh from 28 October to 1 November 2004 to hold high-level consultations with the Government and undertake field visits to the ADB-supported projects for Rural Livelihood Development at Sirajgang, Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge, Jamzuna Bridge Railway Link, and Jamuna Bridge Access Road.

During his five-day visit, Mr. Jin will meet Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, cabinet members, senior government officials, and development partners.

This is Mr. Jin's first visit to Bangladesh since his appointment as Vice-President (Operations) on 1 August 2003. Prior to joining ADB, Mr. Jin, of the People's Republic of China (PRC), was PRC's Vice Minister of Finance and Alternate Governor for PRC at the World Bank.

The Asian Development Bank is dedicated to reducing poverty in the Asia and Pacific region through pro-poor sustainable economic growth, social development, and good governance. Established in 1966, it is owned by 63 members - 45 of which are from the region. In 2003, it approved loans and technical assistance amounting to US$6.1 billion and US$177 million, respectively.
