Hua Du Appointed as ADB Country Director for Bangladesh
DHAKA, BANGLADESH (2 August 2005) - Hua Du was today named as the new Country Director of the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB’s) Bangladesh Resident Mission. She was initially assigned as Deputy Country Director in the Resident Mission beginning 5 September 2002.
Hua Du joined ADB in early 1994. She has worked in the fields of country strategy and program formulation, project processing, and project post-evaluation and quality review. Much of her service at ADB was spent on country programming and project processing in ADB’s South Asian developing member countries, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
She is firmly committed to further enhance ADB’s role in addressing the key development challenges facing Bangladesh. She intends to work closely with other major development partners to support the implementation of the Government’s national poverty reduction strategy.
Ms. Du is a citizen of the People’s Republic of China. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom. Prior to joining ADB, Ms. Du undertook short-term research assignments in the People’s Republic of China, India, Japan, Poland, and the UK.
ADB is dedicated to reducing poverty in the Asia and Pacific region through pro-poor sustainable economic growth, social development, and good governance. Established in 1966, it is owned by 63 members, with 45 from the region. In 2004, it approved US$230 million in loans and $6.3 million in technical assistance for Bangladesh.
