Local Media Experiences Impact of ADB Assistance in Bangladesh
Representatives of the local print and broadcast media visited three projects financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Bangladesh to see firsthand and better understand the development efforts of ADB. The projects visited were the Second Secondary Towns Infrastructure Development Project (STIDP-II) in Sirajganj; Urban Primary Health Care Project (UPHCP) within Dhaka City Corporation; and Titas Gas Field under the Third Natural Gas in Brahmanbaria.
Prior to each visit, the Bangaldesh Resident Mission (BRM) held media briefings to provide background information and project handouts. The project visits were reported in the various local newspapers and television which had participated in the tour. On STIDP-II, the media reported that ADB assistance has led to drains, roads development; slums improvement; and improvement in the lives of slum women.
Under the Urban Primary Health Care Project, the media highlighted better healthcare for the poor in city corporations; urban poor's access to improved medicare facilities; and quality healthcare at affordable price in city.
The visit to the gas field in Brahmanbaria, implemented by the Bangladesh Gas Field Company Limited (BGFCL), generated a lot of interest in ADB's involvement in the gas sector in Bangladesh. |
