Solomon Islands, Australia, New Zealand, and ADB Join Forces to Help Reconnect East and West Guadalcanal After Floods

MANILA, PHILIPPINES (25 March 2009) – Work is underway to reconnect East and West Guadalcanal, after severe flooding in Solomon Islands last month.

In West Guadalcanal, 13 people were killed and an estimated 2000 people were displaced from their homes when heavy rain caused extreme flood conditions. Roads and bridges mostly in West Guadalcanal were significantly damaged and widespread damage to houses and market gardens was reported in the flood damage assessment prepared by the government.
