ADB and IMF Launched 6 Day - Training on Macroeconomic Analysis and ForecastingHANOI, VIET NAM (11 January 2008) – Asian Development Bank (ADB) in collaboration with International Monetary Fund (IMF) launched a 6-day training course on macroeconomic analysis and forecasting in Ha Noi. The training course is aimed at equipping Viet Nam Government officials with latest macroeconomic analysis and forecasting techniques in support of the formulation of monetary and financial policies in the context of rapidly changing economic environment. The program is conducted under the ADB's Public Policy Training Program (PPTP) financed by the Government of Japan. The State Bank of Viet Nam (SBV) is the co-organizer of the program with ADB, and the courses are delivered by the staff of IMF and its Singapore Regional Training Institute (STI) supported by the Governments of Japan and Singapore. Attending the training course are 30 officials of the SBV, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Planning & Investment, as well as lecturers and researchers from various academies and institutes. "This program is particularly important as the State Bank of Viet Nam is transforming itself to a modern central bank," says Ayumi Konishi, ADB Country Director for Viet Nam. "Sound macroeconomic analysis and forecasting will become increasingly important as Viet Nam integrates into global economy" says Shogo Ishii, IMF's Assistant Director for Asia and Pacific. The training course will review the policy mix for stability and growth and the lessons from the Asian crisis, conduct numerous workshops on the accounts of various sectors of the economy as well as their linkages, and help the participants to practice a financial programming exercise. PPTP is a new multi-year initiative of ADB funded under the Japan Fund for Public Policy Training that aims to enhance the public economic policy capability of government officials – initially in Viet Nam, and the program will be expanded to include Cambodia and the Lao People's Democratic Republic in the near future.
