B. Work of the International Competition Network

Another invaluable source of material is the work of the International Competition Network. It has several working groups, one of which is concerned with competition policy implementation. This working group has a subgroup on competition advocacy in regulated sectors. At the Annual Conference of the ICN in South Korea in 2004, the subgroup produced the report, Competition Policy in Regulated Sectors: Examples of Success [ PDF ]. It looks at the advocacy efforts of more than 30 members of the ICN, with a particular emphasis on regulated sectors in developing and transition economies; and looks at such matters as the level of privatization, the level and influence of competition, the awareness of the importance of competition within regulatory agencies, and various advocacy initiatives. At the Bonn conference of 2005, the same subgroup produced another report, the Competition Advocacy Review [ PDF ].
