Competition Law, Anti-Competitive Behavior, and Merger Analysis: Economic Foundations

Written by Dr. Mike Walker

Economics plays an increasing important role in competition policy. This document identifies the competing policy and welfare issues that must be addressed in the adoption of the right competition policy. The first chapter is a general introduction of the economics of competition law. The second chapter discusses the economic issues that arise with respect to the various forms of behaviour that competition law is concerned with. Two case studies showcase the typical analytical steps taken to diagnose non-competitive behaviour in selected industries.
