Purpose and Structure of the Toolkit

Purpose of the Toolkit

The purpose of this Toolkit is to enhance understanding on the relationship between law and the financial sector, introduce key legal concepts in the financial sector and assist and support ADB's relevant efforts in this area.

Structure of the Toolkit

  1. Part One (Introduction and Overview) provides the necessary background to understand the financial sector and the role of law in financial stability and development, as well as an overview of the developing international framework of financial standards and codes designed to support financial stability and development, focusing on the Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP).
  2. Part Two (Preconditions and Infrastructure for Financial Sector Development) discusses the preconditions and infrastructure necessary for a functioning financial sector.
  3. Part Three (Financial Regulation and Supervision) addresses financial regulation and supervision with a discussion of the general principles applicable across different financial sectors, the role of law and regulation in the traditional financial sectors of banking, securities and insurance, and financial regulatory structure.
