World Trade Organization
Toolkit

Updated: 30 June 2005

To deepen understanding of international trade law under WTO and its relevance to the work of ADB, this Toolkit provides a convenient source of reference materials on international trade rules under WTO. The Toolkit contains:

  • A conceptual framework for the structure of international trade law
  • A road map for understanding the linkages among various agreements under WTO
  • The legal matters covered by these agreements
  • An instrument to assist in conducting analysis of legal issues in international trade law

Who can benefit from the toolkit?

The toolkit is useful for:

  • New and experienced ADB staff who wish to enhance their knowledge about the WTO
  • People who wish to obtain information about the WTO

Objectives of the toolkit

  • To make relevant technical material available online in a user-friendly and logical learning structure
  • To provide a resource center for training and learning
  • To provide an online forum in which ADB operations staff can continuously improve their knowledge

The toolkit shows, from the perspective of a developing member country (DMC), the legal aspects of WTO and regional trade arrangements, presenting the law making process and basic structure of the laws, and introducing the sources of the substantive obligations on tariff reduction, trade liberalization, and other WTO rules.
