ADB Handbook on Social Analysis (2007)

Handbook on Social Analysis

The 2007 Handbook on Social Analysis (HSA) is the third edition of the handbook of this kind in ADB that is catered to ADB’s programming and project cycle. The first handbook entitled Handbook for Incorporation of Social Dimensions in Projects was produced in 1994, which was later replaced by the Handbook on Poverty and Social Analysis: A Working Document (2001) at the time of ADB’s major renewal of business processes. Since then, ADB has yet again gone through many institutional, procedural, and strategic changes, requiring the further updates of the 2001 Handbook on Poverty and Social Analysis. This has resulted in the production of the two handbooks – i.e., ADB’s Poverty Handbook (2006) and the HSA (2007). The two handbooks should be read and used together.

The primary users of the HSA are ADB staff, consultants, and Government and nongovernment organization staff in developing member countries involved in ADB projects. It will be also useful to development practitioners and researchers in general.
