Project Summary

This TA will enhance the capacities of the urban poor in selected municipalities to access high-quality urban services in support of the Urban Governance and Infrastructure Improvement (Sector) Project [ PDF ], which is designed to rehabilitate and expand urban development and services in 22 municipalities and to strengthen urban governance by enhancing the participation and involvement of the urban poor. The expected outcomes include: (i) establishment of an institutional mechanism increasing access for the poor to decision-making processes in municipalities; and (ii) participatory pro-poor planning and monitoring systems being developed and adopted in selected municipalities.

The key activities of the TA are:

  • Social mobilization and capacity development of urban poor
  • Capacity development in participatory and pro-poor planning for town level coordination committees and ward committee members and municipal officials
  • Establishment of municipal forums or urban poor, municipal officials, and elected representatives
  • Workshop, study tour, and studies
