Project Summary

The TA will address the potential problem that Cambodia will face in the advent of the phasing out quota restrictions in garment industry by the end of 2004. It will help the government in understanding, examining, and addressing social, poverty and gender through the studies, monitoring and piloting projects. Thus, finding effective ways of creating alternative employment opportunities and ways of protecting retrenched garment workers as a result of the transition.

Specifically, the TA has five (5) components, namely:

  • Situation Analysis and Strategy Development
  • Employment and Labor Market Pilots
  • Social Protection Pilot
  • Institutional Capacity Building, and Project Management
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Exploring the Potential for Scaling Up

A similar TA in Bangladesh is being carried out, and experience will be exchanged between the two countries.
