TA 4574: Community Self-Reliance and Flood Risk Reduction - Cambodia

Project Summary

The TA is a package of capacity building assistance for the vulnerable poor rural communities to cope with recurrent floods and other natural disasters in the lower Mekong River basin. The TA will formulate strategies for making disaster efforts more responsive to women's and children's needs. Interventions will be selected on the basis of efficacy, efficiency and replicability over a broad area. The TA will apply a community participation model based on a strategy of proactive interventions prior to the occurrence of floods and drought.

The TA will be implemented in two phases:

  1. strategy development to formulate a methodology for mobilizing communities to plan, design and implement preparedness, prevention and mitigation measures
  2. capacity development to train government staff, NGOs and leaders, to implement the strategy
